Hi guys
Please let me say this is not involving auto but marine craft. I have completed a small repair to my stand up paddle board. I then tried to re-spray and clear coat the repair.
What I did:
- Used enamel based spray can paint from bunnings (British Paints Spray Easy. Paint and Prime). Applied poorly and had some running. Waited a day then wet sanded out the running paint then applied more coats.
- Waited 24 hours then wet sanded paint job with 800 grit.
- After sandng applied multiple coats, maybe 6, of Rustoleum 2x clear coat with about 3-5 mins between coats. Have since realised I should've applied clear coat 10 mins after final paint coat or 48 hours post.
Conditions during painting and clear coating were probably 30 degrees and maybe 80% humidity here in Brisbane.
It's been 7 days now and I have bubbling and some small holes in the job. Fingernail leaves a definite imprint which actually smooths over after a few seconds on its own accord. It's all very soft. Yesterday and today I put the board in the sun hoping that the heat will help curing. Bubbling has really come up today after bringing the board back inside.
I am wondering whether this job is ruined and I should sand it all back and start over? Or will the clear eventually cure? Could I wet sand the clear coat smoother and then leave to cure?
Apologies for posting this here. Any help is massively appreciated as I am a complete beginner with this stuff. No experience and limited knowledge. For some reason the site won't allow me to upload images.
Kind regards,
Jon
