  • VIDEO: 2009 BMW M3 E92 [Alpinaweiss]

    Hey everyone!

So I've been a little quiet as of late and I do apologise for going missing for a while. In the past few weeks I've been wrapping my head around video production and editing to prepare some detailing videos in the near future.

After approximately 60 hours of detailing and video production combined, we were able to come up with this:

This has been one of my favourite cars to work with to date. One of the finest engineered BMWs with a high-revving V8 engine and some tasteful mods including VRS aerodynamics, 20" DPE RD14 wheels and an Akrapovic exhaust system which provided a beastly roar. Not to mention the car had been completely resprayed and was washed almost every week with the brush at the self-serve car wash - making this vehicle quite the challenge. This car also saw track a few times with the old TE37SLs and massive GT wing (not pictured) before settling down with the 20" wheels and low profile carbon ducktail.

As this was our first video, there are things that could've been improved such as better 50/50s and congruent lighting however these are things I'll be taking forward into our next video.

On to the detail! This car required a three-stage correction (Rotary wool compounding, medium polishing, light finishing) due to the sheer amount of RIDS brushing the car has caused. There were also a slew of 1500 grit sanding marks all over the car which needed to be rectified.

To seal this all in, I added three layers of Opti-Coat Pro+ topped with a single layer of Nova Jet to provide some short term water spot protection and to boost the gloss to the next level.

Also a big shout out to Daniel from Waxit for providing the Shine Mate 15 and 21 seen in the video for testing. Pretty good machines for the price! The 15 tends to bog down on slight angles however the washer mod fixes that right up. Both are extremely smooth and easy to work with.

As presented. All the brushing made this cars paint look matte.

Due to the engine tune and the Akrapovic exhaust system, quite a bit of contaminants find their way to the rear of the car.

    Clayed and ready to go.

The car had been "detailed" previously which left copious amounts of polish and wax in all the trim. Not satisfied with working with the hood vents on the car, I detached them to comprehensively clean and dress them with CarPro PERL

First half untreated, second half treated

    Untreated/Treated

Plenty of polish on the sunroof trim

    Cleaned and dressed

    After the first stage

The engine bay was pretty messy - this was steam cleaned and sealed with Concours Nova Jet, with the plastics being treated with PERL

The Akrapovic tips after a polish and Opti-Coat Pro+

We had to ramp up the car for this one. Every single crevice of the rear diffuser was steam cleaned, polished and coated with Opti-Coat Pro+

    Final shots!

We coated these 20" DPE wheels before they were put on the car. Being a matte powder coat, these would've been extremely hard to clean if not coated with anything.

Doing this sort of work and being able to actually document and show people the pride, joy and passion that goes into our daily job really does provide a sense of fulfilment. It's times like these that I look back and think about how much I don't miss my old office job. I bet all the guys here that transitioned to their own detailing businesses could say the same.

Thanks for looking everyone! Now that I'm not sitting in front of a screen editing videos for hours on end, I can finally get back on the tools and upload the rest of the 20 something write-ups that I've got waiting.

Cheers Matt, it's an old 90s Karcher that's been with me for over a decade haha! She's on her last legs so will be replacing with a newer model shortly.

Damn you annoy me JJ, there's nothing you can't do and everything you do is 10/10.

Wow really inspiring stuff! I really liked the video and the write-up, and the car was interesting too.
Just a personal suggestion for the next video, particularly with cars like this would be a bit of the exhaust sound and acceleration sounds spliced in
