  • Mercedes Benz SLK55 AMG - Black - Opticoat Pro Plus

    Final/Cover Pic

Hi All, long time since I last posted.

This SLK55 AMG was recently purchased (rescued) by its current owner. It came in for correction and Opti-Coat Pro Plus

Fortunately there were pretty healthy paint levels to work with as the damage in the paint was quite horrendous.

    Befores and afters

The roof had some gouges that were too deep to even consider taking out safely

Years of carwash cafe abuse being reversed

    Says it all really

    Final Pics

The deep metallic paint now coming through nicely

    Thanks for looking

    Dan

      Gorgeous result, Dan.

Quick question: I remember looking at a black ML that Steve Samner did a few years ago and it took a gazillion wool pads and hours to correct due to the type of factory clearcoat. What was involved in bringing this one back from the dead?

Mick, I didn't quite have to resort to wool. Rupes Blue and Megs M100 cleared the vast majority of it in a couple of passes. The ceramiclear layer had long since departed from the paint so it wasn't rock hard.

It's still messy work using the Rupes Blue though. I don't like using them normally. Any compound you use with them tends to be worked very hard and dusts pretty heavily. In a smallish space like my garage it means constant clean up
